What is an ECG? The ECG (Electrocardiogram) is used to record the electrical activity of the heart.

The procedure is used to diagnose abnormal heart rhythms and to investigate the cause of chest pain.

Several electrodes are attached to the skin at specific points to record the electrical activity from a number of different angles simultaneously. Analysis of the different traces allows your Consultant to determine the heart rhythm and analyse the function of the cardiac conduction tissue.

The test usually takes several minutes to complete and is safe and painless.
